There's a new scam warning in southern Wisconsin, let's hope it doesn't make it down to Rockford.

Beloit residents should be hesitant to respond to calls from the city's Water Resources Division asking your to balance over the phone.

It's simple, do not share financial information over the phone, and do not pay these people anything.

The City of Beloit shared this on Facebook.

● The Beloit Water Utility will contact you by mail if your account is overdue and your service is at risk of being terminated.
● If a caller demands a utility payment by prepaid debit card or wire transfer, it is a scam.
● Scammers can manipulate your caller ID display to show Beloit Water Utility's name or number when they call.
● If you are unsure of the status of your account, contact your service provider using the number listed on your recent water bill.

As always, be alert and remember - government agencies will never threaten you with being arrested (or something similar) for not paying a balance.
