Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day at These Illinois Shops Near Rockford
Here's something any avid reader can get behind: an independent bookstore day.
Mark Your Calendar: It’s Happening This Weekend
It just so happens that very day is occurring this weekend, too, with an event listed just outside of Rockford. If you haven't been keeping tabs on independent bookstores, you probably missed the 12th annual event coming on Saturday, April 26.
According to Indiebound.org:
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day.
The Novel Spot in Pecatonica Is Leading the Local Charge
This year, The Novel Spot, a woman-owned bookstore in Pecatonica, will host Independent Book Store Day, and they've got some big things planned. The Novel Spot is offering buy-one-get-one deals on books, along with sweet treats from Angel Wings Bake Shoppe.
Other Local Shops Joining the Celebration in the Rockford Area
Other stores in the area are hosting Independent Book Store Day fun:
- Maze Books in Rockford
- Inkwell Books & Threads in Rockton
- Books on First in Dixon
- Robin's Nest Bookshoppe in DeKalb
Head out this weekend, support local businesses, and who knows, maybe you'll find your next best life plot twist inside a new book.
