Illinois Weather Gets a Second Summer, 10+ Days Above 80 Degrees

How Long Does Second Summer Stay in Illinois
According to the latest Weather Channel extended forecast for Rockford, we'll be close to 90 degrees on Thursday (9/12) and it will stay well above 80 for at least the next 10 days.

The next day the high temperature is expected to only reach the 70's will be September 23, when the Weather Channel says we'll have rain and a high of 76.
We're about a month away from our average "first freeze" in the Rockford region when we are likely to get our first temperatures below 32 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, that usually happens between October 11 and 20.
If you go a little further west, areas around Freeport and Galena get their average first freeze between October 5 and 10.
Will This Upcoming Weekend Be Hot and Stormy in Rockford?
The current forecast for Rockford from the National Weather Service has temperatures in the lower 80s on Friday (9/13), Saturday (9/14), and Sunday (9/15).
On Saturday, there's a 20 percent chance of showers during the day, and a 30 percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms late Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the NWS.
