According to Frerichs, these grants are funded by fees paid by larger nonprofits filing annual reports, not by personal or property taxes.
Where the Money is Going
An independent 11-member panel selected the 10 recipients from 68 applicants, with each organization receiving up to $200,000, the maximum award allowed.

Among the nonprofits receiving the $200,000 grant is the Boys and Girls Club of Freeport and Stephenson County, and in Rockford, Life Decisions will also be awarded the grant.

Leaders say the funds will directly support paid internships for youth, interest-free emergency housing loans, and rental and utility assistance to prevent displacement.
Since its launch in 2017, the Charitable Trust Stabilization Fund has awarded 251 grants totaling more than $5 million to 209 nonprofits statewide.
The current grant cycle remains open through March 31 for organizations focused on food access and workforce development.
