Three US Postal Carriers Robbed In the Same Week In Illinois

In the past week, three separate mail carriers were robbed while on their routes in Illinois. Two of these incidents occurred in Chicago, while the third took place in a nearby suburb.

100 Block of S. Seeley Ave., Chicago

The first incident in Chicago happened on S. Seeley Ave. on the morning of March 16th Around 11:30 a.m. A postal worker was inside a parked vehicle when a gold Lexus approached and an armed suspect exited and demanded postal property and personal items.

Police say the victim complied and the Lexus drove off in an unknown direction.

6400 block of N. Hoyne Ave., Chicago

Just two days later, another postal worker in Chicago was robbed at gunpoint in an alleyway on the city's Northside on N. Hoyne Avenue. Again, a mail carrier was approached by an armed suspect who stole mail and packages from the carrier before getting away.

Neither of the mail carriers was hurt.

1900 block of Norfolk, Westchester

The third incident took place in Westchester on Norfolk Avenue on March 22nd. According to police, a postal carrier was robbed of their mail keys.

It's unclear if any mail or packages were taken in this robbery but police believe the male suspect was wearing a ski mask and fled the scene in a red BMW with tinted windows.

All three robberies are concerning not only for the safety of the mail carriers but also for the security of the mail. Mail theft can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, and other serious crimes.

The Postal Service takes the safety and security of their carriers and mail seriously and is working with local law enforcement to investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
