A grant is available in Illinois to help law enforcement agencies statewide expand their video technology, enhancing their transparency and accountability.

$56 Million Grant Opens for Illinois Police Camera Upgrades

According to the press release, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) has officially opened applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Law Enforcement Camera Grant, offering over $56 million in state funding to help local agencies expand video technology and enhance accountability.

The initiative was designed to strengthen transparency and evidence collection across Illinois police departments by supporting the purchase and use of body-worn cameras, in-car video systems, and related data management tools.

The grant, which will remain open until 5 pm on December 31, allows eligible agencies to request up to $3 million in funding.

Grant Supports Accountability and Transparency Goals

According to ILETSB, the purpose of this program is to assist law enforcement in meeting their evolving accountability standards while making sure all officers have access to modern tools for documentation and training.

The funding can be applied toward camera purchases, storage costs, licensing fees, and officer training.

The grant also includes flexible options such as reimbursements, advance payments, and working capital advances, and even covers pre-award expenses dating back to July 1, 2025.

How to Apply for the Camera Grant

The grant is open to municipal, county, and university police agencies, as well as park districts and all other units of local government in Illinois.

Interested departments are urged to review the full Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and submit their applications through the AmpliFund portal before the deadline.
