Governor Pritzker has signed a law raising the legal age to buy tobacco and nicotine products to 21. Find out when the law takes effect.

The Sunday, April 7 bill signing by the Governor was applauded by the American Lung Association and everyone hoping to curb teen's usage of e-cigarettes. The 'Tobacco 21' law goes into effect on July 1, 2019, according to wrex.com.

Illinois becomes the 11th state to pass the 'Tobacco 21' law after Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Washington.

The 'Tobacco 21' law prohibits anyone under 21 years of age from buying both tobacco and vaping products, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes and vapes.
