Illinois Sets New Wage Rates For Construction Workers In 2025
The official 2025 prevailing wage rates for construction workers across all Illinois counties have been released by the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL).
Contruction Trades Prevailing Wages Released
According to an IDOL press release, the updated rates went into effect on Tuesday, July 15, following IDOL's annual statewide survey conducted under the Illinois Prevailing Wages Act.
The Illinois Prevailing Wage Act requires workers on publicly funded construction and infastructure projects to be paid wages that align with standards.
Protecting Illinois Workers and Local Economies
According to IDOL, this practice helps keep taxpayer dollars circulating within Illinois communities, supports fair wages, and promotes quality jobs.
The goal of this plan is to create a fair playing field while fostering competition between contractors bidding on public projects.
How the Rates Are Determined
Each June, IDOL reviews local compensation data, defined as the combination of hourly base pay and authorized fringe benefits, for construction trades.
This data will reflect what workers performing on similar jobs on public works projects in each county until typically paid.
The resulting prevailing wage rates are meant to reflect fair market standards and uphold wage protections statewide.
Illinois continues to invest in its workforce and communities through strong prevailing wage protections. These rates ensure that workers are paid fairly and that responsible contractors have a level playing field when bidding for public works projects. -Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan
