Winnebago County Residents Are Now Eligible For Storm Disaster Assistance From FEMA
A round of severe storms back in July 2024 left thousands of Rockford, Illinois residents to deal with major flood damage to their homes and now the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is stepping up to help.
Official Disaster Zone Declared In Parts of Winnebago County
For the most part, the summer of 2024 in Northern Illinois was a pretty mild one, but on July 13-16, severe storms left thousands of people literally drowning in flood and storm repairs. My home was thankfully unscathed, but I know many other people who were not so fortunate.
Many Winnebago County residents had to deal with flooded basements, while others had to live without power for multiple days. If you suffered any damage from those storms, whether it be major like a flood-destroyed basement, or minor like a blown TV or water heater, you are now eligible for relief from FEMA.
Applying for FEMA Aid in Winnebago County
According to mystateline.com, FEMA is sending aid to Winnebago County to help relieve financial burdens like repair costs and temporary housing caused by the storms in July.
2nd Ward Alderman Jonathan Logemann told mystateline.com;
If they needed to get a new washing machine or a new water heater, I would advise citizens to make that claim to FEMA if they suffered as a result of the storms. Saving your receipts is very important.
Applying for disaster assistance from FEMA is relatively simple, but you must have a complete list of the damages you incurred.
If you already filed a claim with your insurance provider, you can still apply for assistance, but FEMA does require you provide information about your insurance provider and/or your policy number.
