Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. At Navy Pier In Chicago Is Closed For Good
After nearly 25 years in business, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is closing shop and giving way to a brand new eating experience.
Bubba Gump opened at Navy Pier a few years after the film classic Forrest Gump premiered on the silver screen.
Now that the Ferris Wheel has been updated, apparently, it was time to replace the restaurant that came in at the same time. Both Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and the massive Ferris wheel at Navy Pier both debuted at Navy Pier in 1996.
The change might be coming at the right time too. Reviews of Bubba Gump at Navy Pier have been mostly negative in the past few months calling it "overpriced" and another mentioning the "restaurant will be closed down within the next 5 years"
Well, it's officially closed now, but a brand new restaurant will go in place of Bubba Gump, called Reunion.
Reunion, a Southern restaurant by celebrity chef Art Smith, is slated to break ground at Navy Pier in January, with an estimated grand opening in spring. Smith, an acclaimed cookbook author, has won multiple awards and also owns several restaurants nationally, including one at Disney World.
