If you keep Amazon’s store-brand pain reliever on hand for those everyday aches and pains that come with age and Illinois weather, there’s a new recall you’ll want to know about before reaching for your next dose.

The Price of Getting Older

Most people over the age of 40 understand that getting older is basically a daily game of guessing which body part is going to hurt next.

One day it's your back, the next, it's your knees, and sometimes you wake up with a sore shoulder and have absolutely no idea what you did to deserve it.

By now your medicine cabinet probably looks like a mini pharmacy, and acetaminophen is likely one of your favorite go-tos for pain relief. Unfortunately, a new recall involving Amazon's store-brand acetaminophen has me thinking it's time to check what's hiding in that cabinet.

Amazon Acetaminophen Recall Affects More Than 112,000 Bottles

According to recall information from the FDA, as reported by

According to recall information from the FDA, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago, more than 112,000 bottles of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Pain Relief acetaminophen have been voluntarily recalled in three different bottle sizes: 200-count, 500-count and 1,000-count bottles.

The reason for the recall? Customers have reported that some of the tablets had changed color, and officials have not identified the cause of the discoloration.

Now, I'm no pharmacist, but if I opened a bottle of pain reliever and the caplets looked different than they used to, I'm not reaching for a glass of water to take them with.

Lot Numbers Included in Amazon Acetaminophen Recall

Before you panic and start tossing every bottle of pain reliever you own, there are two important things you need to know: The FDA has not specified health risks or injuries associated with the recalled products, and only specific lot numbers have been recalled.

Here are the lot numbers you need to look for on your bottles of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Acetaminophen:

  • 200-count bottles: Lot ACD125040A
  • 500-count bottles: Lots ACD124036A, ACD124030A, ACD124042A, ACD124048B and ACD125010A

If you have a bottle that matches one of those lot numbers, stop using the medication and contact Amazon customer service for information about refunds.
