
Illinois Teen Denied Entry to Black Phone 2 at AMC Rockford
On Saturday night, my fifteen-year-old tried to see The Black Phone 2 at AMC 16 in Rockford. It was the first night they were open after being closed all week. You'd think all customers would be welcome. Eh, not so much.
Parental Consent Rejected at the Ticket Counter
He went with two friends who were both 18, and I paid with my debit card. This essentially means I am giving serious parental consent, right? At the ticket counter, they still told him "no." Rated R meant he was still not allowed, even with two 18-year-olds there, which I always thought 18 was synonymous with adult, but I guess I was wrong. They even told my son the chaperone has to be 21.

Security Guards Enforce AMC’s Strict Rated-R Policy
My son ultimately bought a ticket to see something else, with the thought of maybe, just maybe, walking Black Phone 2. That was a no-go too, as there were three security guard posts by the movie theater doors in a not-so-subtle move.

Tron Ares Instead of Black Phone 2
What did he and his two friends end up seeing? Tron Ares. His review was not so great. Neon bikes and Jared Leto hamming it up instead of the movie he actually wanted to see.
Common Sense Should Count for Something
I know movie theaters have policies, and I am not asking them to throw out the rulebook, but I am asking for a little common sense. He has my permission. He's with adults, he's got my money, but it seems like AMC Showplace 16 in Rockford isn't all that interested in it.
