
Rockford Man Arrested in Georgia for Teen’s Fatal Overdose
A man accused of supplying lethal drugs that killed a teenager in Rockford last Summer has finally been arrested.
According to the Rockford Police Department press release, it was on July 28, 2024, when officers responded to the 1100 block of Van Wie Avenue for a death investigation of a 15-year-old male.
Death Investigation Leads to Drug-Induced Homicide Charge
Following an investigation by the RPD's Sensitive Crimes Unit determined the juvenile died from the adverse effects of heroin and fentanyl.

The investigation also revealed that 34-year-old Matthew Alexander of Rockford allegedly provided the teen with the drugs.
After reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized one count of drug-induced homicide against Alexander, who had a warrant issued for his arrest on November 12, 2024.
Arrest Made in Georgia
On Tuesday (February 18), authorities arrested Alexander in Forest Park, Georgia. He was taken into custody with the help of the FBI, the Forest Park PD, and the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.
Matthew Alexander is currently awaiting extradition to Illinois to face the charges, according to the Rockford Police press release.

The charges against Alexander are merely an accusation, and he's presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
