When Will a Real ID Be Required in Wisconsin?
You may think it's still many years away before the new identification is required to fly within the United States. but it's less than 2 years away.
All U.S. travelers "must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities" as of May 7, 2025. Just over a year and 8 months to get your upgraded license or passport.

How Do You Obtain a Real ID in Wisconsin?
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website, these are the items to bring with you to a Department of Motor Vehicles location so you can obtain a Real ID:
- Proof of Name and Date of Birth
- Proof of Legal Presence in the U.S.
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Name Change (if your name is different than what’s on your birth certificate, proof is needed for each name change)
- Proof of Address (two forms)
- Provide your Social Security Number
