In the last year the Rockford area has had to mourn the closing of too many retailers. Gander Mountain, K-mart, Toys-R-Us, Bergner's have already, or are currently in the process of, saying their final goodbyes to the Stateline, and it's beginning to look like the retail losses won't end with them.

According to msn.com, eleven national retailers may still be at risk of closure in 2018, and many of them have a home in Rockford...for now.

If any of these retailers do decide to close up shop soon in Rockford, the CherryVale Mall and Forest Plaza are going to have to do a whole lot of revamping in a hurry!

The 11 retailers that may not survive 2018 according to MSN are:

  1. Sears
  2. Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores
  3. J.C. Penney
  4. Barnes & Noble Booksellers
  5. Office Depot
  6. GNC
  7. Vitamin Shoppe
  8. Vitamin World
  9. Foot Locker
  10. Payless Shoe Source
  11. Charlotte Russe

Seeing that so many of those troubled brands have stores in Rockford makes me not only feel sad, but also guilty. I'm sure many of these retailers' troubles are caused by Amazon and Walmart, which are two places I just cannot stop shopping at. I know I should be focusing more on shopping at local, brick and mortar stores, but the convenience of free 2 day shipping and merch pickup is just impossible to ignore as a Mom of 2 littles who do not like to shop.
