A romantic trip to Chicago turned into an arrest on terrorism charges and then eventually turned into a sweet engagement. There's a lot to unpack.

Iowa man Keegan Casteel was arrested earlier in July when Chicago police, acting on a tip from a hotel employee at the W, found multiple guns and ammo in his hotel room that happened to overlook a destination for crowds over the Fourth of July weekend.

Immediate thoughts of the Las Vegas shooting that claimed dozens of lives were immediately had by anyone that heard this story. The hotel worker was lionized. I'm actually surprised that they didn't throw out a first pitch at a Cubs or Sox game.

It turns out that it was all a mistake, a very, very stupid mistake, but all a mistake.

As you can see in the body footage above, the police found some guns, ammo and other equipment in the room. The video cuts to Casteel being interviewed, shirtless and handcuffed, in the hallway. Casteel explains that it was all a mistake and that he simply forgot to take all the guns out of his bag before traveling to Illinois.

Then the video cuts to Casteel being talked to in a holding cell and explains to the police that he was going to take his girlfriend to the top of a ferris wheel (Navy Pier I'm assuming) and propose. The video then ends with him on one knee in front of his girlfriend and them in an embrace.

As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Casteel made two rather large mistakes that he needs to correct immediately.

1. Keep Track of Your Guns

Now I don't have any guns. One of the reasons is that I can't keep track of anything. I constantly lose things. Would I forget a handgun in a bag? Absolutely I would. That's why I take it out of my hands. I would be a bad gun owner. Some people would be bad dog owners and shouldn't own dogs. I love dogs and can't figure out why someone wouldn't want one but that's just me.

Mr. Casteel is at best a pretty bad gun owner. The charges he currently still has against him should be a reminder of that.

2. You're Proposing At Navy Pier

Really man. Navy Pier? Did you have reservations for the Cheesecake Factory afterwards? Class it up and at least do it at Shedd. Navy Pier is for high school trips and garden shows and that's about it. Will it be cool sometime in the next 30 years? It's possible that time is definitely not now.

But he really should fix the bad gun owner thing first.
