Walmart Issues Statement On Rockford-Area Shoplifting Procedures
After reading about stories about shoplifters getting out of the store with stolen goods, like the two men that took two carts full of items, many questions arose about Walmart's loss prevention protocol. In an effort to gain a better understanding of what employees can/can not do, I reached out Walmart's media department for answers.
Here's what a Walmart National Media Relations Senior Manager sent me in regards to loss prevention,
We take the protection of our assets seriously. For obvious security reasons, we cannot discuss the specifics of store security policies. However, we have numerous programs in place to address shoplifting, such as security cameras, technology, and associates in place to reduce crime in our stores, including checking receipts at the doors In addition, we reach out to law enforcement as necessary as part of our ongoing commitment to meet our customers’ and associates’ expectations of a safe and enjoyable shopping experience.
So, as one might assume, the response was a well-worded vague statement for security persons. And, after sharing the note on the air, someone claiming to be a past Walmart called in with a little more information.
I (nor the radio station) do not condone stealing at all. This is just a deeper look into a common conversation.
