There are few things that break my heart more than seeing awesome, lovable animals without homes at local animal shelters. Sure they receive great care from shelter staff and volunteers, but they still spend their nights in a cage without a family to love them.

What makes me even sadder is when an older animal finds themselves at a shelter, because too often they are overlooked by potential adopters. I sure hope that won't be the case anymore for today's pet of the week, Chaka.

Chaka wrote a letter that was sent to me by Amber Pinnon, Adoption and Volunteer Program Coordinator for Winnebago County Animal Services, that goes like this;

I’m Chaka! 🐾

They call me a senior dog but my years of experience on being a man’s best friend is what I live for. I am 12 years young with some grey around my face and some on my paws too. I think it gives me a distinguished look.

I may be an older guy but I can still love you like  a puppy would and even play as much as these old bones will let me.

My favorite things are to pounce around with toys and go for walks outside, even with the snow.

If you give me a chance to be a part of your family I promise you I will love you with all my heart. Please don’t forget about me.

Doesn't that just hit you right in the heart strings?!?!

If you are a person with a lot of love to give, and someone who doesn't have the time or energy for a younger dog, please adopt Chaka today. Don't make him spend his final years in a cage...thinking about that makes me get all teary.

Here's a video of Chaka in action, does this look like an "old dog" to you? Heck no!

Please click here now to fill out an adoption application and bring Chaka home today and ring in 2021 with a new best friend!
