‘6-7′ & More: Top Slang Illinois Parents Need to Know in 2025
Are you a teen parent who is completely lost trying to make sense of the weird things your children say? Here’s what three of the most searched for slang words in Illinois in 2025 actually mean.
Kids Say the Darndest Things
I'm sure you've heard the old saying "kids say the darndest things" before, but understanding what today's kids are saying often requires some ridiculous Google searches.
In the last few months, my kids have used three specific phrases so often (aside from “bruh”) that I’m losing my mind: "big back", "cooked", and "6-7". I know what two of those phrases mean, but the third one has me quite perplexed, and apparently, I am not alone.
The Most Googled Slangs Terms in Illinois in 2025
The website Unscrambler recently analyzed new Google search data for the most searched for slang words in Illinois, and before I give you the list, let me just say that one of my kids' favorites, (and the one that makes zero sense to me), is right at the top: 6-7.
For the record, 6-7 comes from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla, plus memes and viral videos featuring basketball star LaMelo Ball, who is 6′7″ tall. Despite that, it has no specific meaning. Sometimes kids use it to mean “so-so” or “meh”, but really I think most of them are just using it as an excuse to yell loudly and feel cool.
