Michael Youngblood, president of the faculty union, told WREX-TV:

We were hoping to begin the school year with a contract -- but much like negotiations in 2011 -- our Board of Trustees through its representative have allowed talks to draw out. We have two more meetings scheduled with the Board's representative and the federal mediator and we plan on continuing to bargain in good faith for a contract that is fair to our students, the faculty, and the taxpayers. We hope to avert a strike.
