Every city, town, and village throughout Illinois has their own set of Halloween ordinances, but two towns have taken it to the extreme.

Halloween Laws in Illinois

I love Halloween, and I especially love handing out candy to all the kids in my neighborhood. I love seeing the costumes, the smiles, talking to neighbors, and I really like seeing my kids go on a mad dash to get as much candy as possible in a limited amount of time.

In the last few years, many towns, cities, and villages throughout Illinois have tried, or at least considered, moving trick-or-treating times to the weekend closest to Halloween, when Halloween falls on a weeknight,  but that is not an idea that has been positively embraced by many community members.

If you think trick-or-treating on a night other than October 31 is bad, wait until you get a load of the strict Halloween rules that other communities in Illinois have.

The 2 Worst Places to Trick or Treat in Illinois

I don't know about you, but I do appreciate having established trick-or-treat times, basically because it gives an end to my kids' mad candy dash. While most trick-or-treaters are just out for the candy, some are out to cause mischief, and I'm pretty sure that's why caused these two Illinois towns to be such Halloween party poopers...

1. Belleville, Illinois

According to IllinoisPolicy.org, Belleville, Illinois has the strictest Halloween laws in the entire state. Belleville's laws do not allow anyone to trick-or-treat beyong 8th grade, and defying the rule will score you a $1,000 fine!

Ready for an even more ridiculous Belleville law? If you are over the age of 12 and want to wear a mask on any other day than Halloween, you have to get permission from the Mayor and Police Chief. LOL!

2. Forsyth, Illinois

Forsyth, Illinois takes the porch light rule very seriously. If police see you "approaching" a house that has its porch lights OFF on Halloween, the only treat you'll get is a $750 fine! It doesn't matter if you're 3 or 30 years old, or if you were caught at the very end of the driveway...you are still busted.

Aren't you glad Halloween rules aren't that strict where you live? I know I sure am!
