The City of Rockford has declared a "snow emergency" in anticipation of this weekend's snow storm that could bring up to 12 inches of snow.

The snow emergency begins 9 p.m. tonight. At that time, vehicles should only be parked on the even address side of the street in Rockford. At 8 a.m. Saturday, vehicles should then only be parked on the odd address side of the street.

The National Weather Service is predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow tonight with an additional 2 to 4 inches on Saturday.

If the area is blanketed with the predicted amounts of snow, it will be one of the largest first snowfalls ever.
