As the nation continues to mourn the devastating loss of life in Texas following historic flooding, we are expecting a couple of rounds of severe storms in the Stateline before the weekend arrives.

Early Week Storm Chances in Rockford and Chicago

According to the latest forecast from the Weather Channel, while temperatures will cool down into the mid-80s, the threat of thunderstorms is still hot.

The Rockford region has a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday (7/8), with a high of 81, while in Chicago, the threat of rain and storms is around 20 percent, according to the Weather Channel.

Stray showers and storms are still possible on Tuesday night, before it clears out for a couple of days.

Midweek Break with Milder Conditions

Mostly sunny skies and milder temperatures are in the forecast for Rockford midweek, with highs around 85 both Wednesday (7/9) and Thursday (7/10). and less than a 10 percent chance of rain.

The weekend arrives with another round of potentially severe thunderstorms that could bring heavy rainfall to the Rockford region.

The current Weather Channel forecast for Rockford indicates a 50 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Friday (7/11), with highs in the upper 80s. Chicago temperatures will be close to 90 on Friday, with a 20 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Wisconsin's forecast for the Janesville and Madison areas has morning showers and afternoon thunderstorms at around 60 percent, with highs in the mid-80s, and thunderstorms are likely on Friday night, according to the Weather Channel.

Couple Days This Week Could Have Severe Weather

The National Weather Service says the highest chances for thunderstorms this week are on Tuesday (7/8) and on Friday (7/11), where heavy downpours, gusty winds, and lightning are the main threats.

Current forecasts from the Weather Channel and the National Weather Service have no mention of Tornado threat this week, but we will update this story as conditions and forecasts change.
