Rockton Police Offer Saves Suicidal Woman
On Tuesday night the Rockton Police Department received a call about a suicidal woman who was going to jump off the Blackhawk Bridge. It's what happened when officers arrived on the scene that has me wanting to give an officer a big ole bear hug.
According to a post from the Rockton Police Department on the Nextdoor app, Sgt. Justin Jobst immediately began looking for the victim upon arriving on the scene, and found her walking on the Rock River Bridge threatening to jump. The woman "ignored the officer’s commands to stop and she climbed over the side of the railing of the bridge while hanging over the river. "
It was at this point that Sgt. Jobst dove into action and literally bear hugged the woman to drag her back to safety. Jobst told Eyewitness News;
It happened so fast, I think a lot of my adrenaline rushed in and I didn't really feel much," he said. "I feel lucky I feel fortunate, I honestly feel blessed that for whatever reason or reasons I was there at the right particular time and I was able to see her"
The woman was then taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, but could have ended so much worse if it wasn't for Jobst's swift actions.
Sgt. Jobst will be receiving the Department's Lifesaving Award at Rockton's Village Board Meeting this Tuesday, September 19th.
God bless you Sgt. Jobst!!
