Rockford’s Population Dip Could Hit 10 Consecutive Years
Trends are hard to refute, especially when you see how many years Rockford's population has decreased consecutively.
2018 was a first for Illinois and not in a good way. All of Land of Lincoln's metro areas experienced a population decrease and Rockford is now part of an unfortunate trend. Rockford had a population decline for the eighth consecutive year. If trends are indeed accurate, Screw City will see a dip in population size for ten consecutive years or more.
Here are the numbers from IllinoisPolicy.org:
Chicago continues to lead the country for population decline, losing 22,000 residents from July 2017-July 2018.
What will take for Rockford's population to break the trend and draw in new residents? More jobs? Less crime? A casino/more entertainment options? With Rockford being in the middle of Chicago and Milwaukee there should be more of an attraction for non-residential home buyers. Could the answer to all of this Illinois' government?
