It was a tragic weekend in Rockford with two fatal car crashes, and a murder investigation is now underway following a deadly shooting on E. State Street.
Friday Night Crash Claims Life of 40-Year-Old Man
A deadly weekend in Rockford began on Friday evening (6/6) when emergency crews responded to a serious crash at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Eastrock Drive around 6:40 pm.

According to the press release, witnesses reported seeing the vehicle speeding westbound before it veered off the road, striking a light pole and a tree.
The 40-year-old male driver was rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries, according to the report.
Teen Killed in Saturday Shooting on Revell Avenue
On Saturday afternoon (6/7), at around 2:15 pm, Rockford Police were alerted by ShotSpotter technology to gunfire in the 1200 block of Revell Avenue.
Moments later, multiple 911 calls reported gunshots, and victims were seen behind 1244 E. State Street.

A 19-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, while an 18-year-old with non-life-threatening injuries arrived at another hospital on his own.
According to Rockford PD, a gunman approached a group near an abandoned garage and opened fire before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Second Fatal Crash Early Sunday Morning
Tragedy struck again just after midnight on Sunday, June 8, when emergency personnel responded to another fatal crash.
According to the report, officers responded around 12:25 am to the 3300 block of Wesleyan Avenue for another high-speed single-vehicle crash. Witnesses reported that the car crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, left the roadway, and struck a tree.
The 44-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from the wreckage, according to the press release.
