
Violent Rockford Weekend with Multiple Shootings, Drug Busts
Saturday, August 24, 2024, marked a dark day for Rockford, with multiple violent incidents and significant drug-related arrests in the city over the last weekend before classes begin at Rockford Public Schools.
It was a chaotic scene when Rockford Police responded to reports of gunshots in the 400 block of Gregory Street at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Saturday (8/24).

Upon arrival, officers observed several vehicles fleeing the scene. Shortly after, a 31-year-old man arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, as authorities work to uncover the motives and those responsible, according to the press release.
Drug Bust and Weapon Charges Later in the Day
Saturday around 7:55 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the area of N. Rockton and Cameron Avenues. Inside, they discovered a loaded handgun and cannabis.
The passenger, 19-year-old Quinterrious Beasley, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of cannabis, and operating without a valid FOID (Firearm Owner's Identification) card.
The case has been reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, which authorized the charges.
Tragic Murder and Major Drug Seizure
The day's violence reached its peak late in the evening. At approximately 11:15 p.m., Rockford Police were dispatched to a parking lot in the 6600 block of E. State Street, where they found a 27-year-old man deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Reports indicate a confrontation between the victim and other individuals, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire.

Earlier that evening, at around 10:15 p.m., SCOPE officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 3100 block of Parkside Avenue.
The driver, Javar Davis-Puckett, fled the scene but was apprehended after a brief chase. Officers seized over 400 grams of cannabis, 28 grams of cocaine, and multiple Ecstasy tablets from the vehicle.
Davis-Puckett, 35, faces serious charges including possession with intent to deliver cannabis and cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing to elude, resisting arrest, and various traffic citations.
As investigations continue, the community is left grappling with the impact of these incidents, hoping for justice and peace in the face of mounting violence and drug-related issues.
