In light of the awful Parkland, Florida school shooting this week a Rockford school reveals their emergency plan in case something like should happen on their campus.

RockValley College Chief Joe Drought told WIFR that "the school is constantly updating its plan to keep its students safe."

The college "has a full plan in place in case of an emergency called practical response to active shooter."

In fact, they've created this video below to show you how they've trained for it.

Schools in the Rockford Public School district as well as in Belvidere and Freeport have also set a plan in action if a shooting incident should occur on their grounds as well.

RPS says "We consistently work with Rockford Police and local emergency responders to ensure our students and staff remain safe."

RPS also has implemented the A.L.I.C.E program (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate). Which "is a partnership with Rockford police that helps students and staff know how to protect themselves in any emergency situation."

Belvidere school officials stated to WIFR that "Every principal in the district, their school administration team, and the district office take the safety of our students and our community as a vitally important part of their responsibility."

Freeport's school system was quoted saying "The Freeport School District analyzes its crisis plan every year. We are glad to share that the local law enforcement agencies conduct drills in the buildings after school hours to familiarize themselves with the buildings in case of a situation."

On one hand, I glad to know that school's in the area have a plan to follow in case of this emergency arising. It's nice to see that they are pro-active about this matter.

On the other hand, it's sad and breaks my heart to know that we now live in a day and age that we have to put plans, programs and drills like these into effect.
