
Rockford Drivers Brace for Major Road Closures That Begin in 7 Days
After you enjoy some time off for the Memorial Day weekend, be prepared for some traffic delays on major Rockford roads.
Water Main Work to Close Avenue in Rockford on May 30
According to a press release from the City of Rockford, there will be a brief but impactful road closure at the end of May.

Beginning at 7 am on May 30 (2025), South Rockford Avenue will be closed between East State Street and 2nd Avenue while essential water main construction is completed.
If the weather is favorable, the repairs should be completed by 5 pm the same day, according to the press release. A detour will be clearly posted to navigate drivers through the area, while local access will be available for residents who live along the S. Rockford.
Northbound North Alpine Will Close in Early June
A longer traffic disruption will begin in early June on one of Rockford's busiest north-south corridors.
Beginning on Monday, June 9 (2025), all northbound lanes of N. Alpine Road will be closed from Brookview Road to Spring Creek Road as water main replacement continues.

Closure of North Alpine Road is expected to last until Wednesday, June 11, with access for local residents and businesses still available during the construction.
Stay Alert and Plan Ahead
City officials are urging motorists to obey posted work zone speed limits and be alert for construction workers in the areas where improvements are being made.
