An investigation continues following a traffic crash that injured two individuals on East State Street, leaving one with critical injuries.

Pedestrians Struck During Evening Traffic Incident

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers were notified of a serious traffic crash involving pedestrians around 6:45 pm Wednesday (1/14) at the intersection of E. State Street and Roxbury Road.

When officers arrived at this busy east side corridor, they found a 62-year-old man lying in the roadway on East State Street, suffering from life-threatening injuries. A second victim, a 55-year-old man, was located nearby by responding police officers, and he reportedly had minor injuries from the crash.

Both individuals were transported to a local hospital, but the condition of the 62-year-old victim had not been released as of the time this story was published.

Driver Remains at Scene as Investigation Continues

Rockford Police confirmed in the press release that the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.

No citations or charges have been announced at the time this story was published, and the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Rockford Police Department.
