The Rockford Police have released the results of a statewide holiday traffic enforcement campaign aimed at preventing crashes and saving lives.

Statewide Safety Campaign Hits Rockford Streets

During the recent holiday season, the Rockford Police Department joined the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and law enforcement agencies across Illinois in a coordinated traffic safety enforcement effort.

The initiative combined the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Drive High. Get a DUI," and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns, focusing on impaired driving and seat belt compliance from December 12 through January 5.

Enforcement Results Show Measurable Impact

According to enforcement data released by Rockford PD, officers made three impaired driving arrests during the campaign period.

In addition, 39 citations were issued for seat belt violations, underscoring ongoing compliance issues even during high-visibility enforcement.

Police also cited 24 drivers for speeding, issued six distracted driving citations, and wrote 22 citations for driver's license offenses.

Funding and Statewide Strategy

The holiday enforcement effort was administered by IDOT using federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The campaign is part of Illinois' broader "It's Not a Game" media and enforcement strategy, which emphasizes consistent, statewide traffic safety messaging.

Focus on Prevention, Not Just Enforcement

From patrolling rural roads to city expressways, the campaign's goal remained consistent: reduce preventable crashes and save lives.

Rockford Police say the results highlight the "deterrent effect" of coordinated enforcement during high-risk travel periods.
