Rockford Park District Officially Closing Three Attractions Due To Budget Cuts
It's official, Rockford Park District will be cutting three attractions in 2018 because of a million dollar deficit. Officials opted to not increase taxes for Rockford residents, therefore cuts had to made, including two downtown attractions.
In a press release, Rockford Park District announced it will cease operation of Trolley Car 36 and Forest City Queen in 2018. Rockford Park District's board also approved closing Sand Park Pool for the 2018 season and eliminate indoor swimming lessons. No word on when (or if) these attractions will re-open. And, as a way to increase revenue, video gambling machines will be available at select Rockford Park District attractions.
