A shooting in a Rockford shopping center parking lot on E. State Street last summer ended with one man dead. Nearly 7 months later, four individuals have been charged with his death.

Deadly Shooting in Rockford Parking Lot

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Rockford Police responded to a reported shooting around 11:15 pm in a parking lot located in the 6600 block of E. State Street.

When Rockford PD arrived on the scene, officers discovered a deceased shooting victim who had multiple gunshot wounds. The man who died from his injuries was identified as 27-year-old Chase Higgins.

Rockford Police Identify Four Suspects

Those who witnessed the incident told RPD that a fight had taken place in the parking lot that eventually led to the shooting.

After an investigation, the Rockford PD Gang Unit identified four individuals who are suspects in the shooting, and the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office approved the following charges:

  • Enrique Dozal of Rockford (21) - 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery
  • Aarionte Mahone of Rockford (27) - 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery
  • Jason Bryant of Rockford (29) - 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery
  • Juvenile Male from Rockford (15) - 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery

According to the press release, the 15-year-old Juvenile Male is the only suspect that was not in custody, and at the time this story was published, he was still at-large.

Rockford PD is urging anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward. You can call RPD at 815-966-2900, or if you want to leave an anonymous tip, text RPDTIP to 847411.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, according to the press release.
