Rockford Experiencing Major Blood Shortage

According to our news partner WTVO, The Rock River Valley Blood Center is in a major shortage. In fact, it is so bad that they are having to have blood imported from other centers. 

The reason for the shortage is because people are on vacation and not in town. Also, schools and businesses are not holding as many blood drives in the summer. Normally, they receive 1,000 units of blood a week and now they are down to 600 units a week, which translates to a 40% decrease.

The shortage of blood is not just here. It is nationwide. And the need for blood is critical.

What can you do? Take an hour of your time and head down to the blood center. It is painless and you will leave with a feeling of doing something good.
