During the summer of 2019, my daughters fell in love with swimming at Alpine Pool in Rockford, and then they announced it would be closing for good. We were sad. Then the City of Rockford swooped in to help the Park District cover some of the operating costs at Alpine Pool, and we got happy again. Then COVID hit, and Alpine Pool fun was a no-go again during the summer of 2020.

Well, here we are approaching the summer of 2021, and I am pleased to say I will finally be able to deliver some good news to my girls in regards to their beloved Alpine Pool... it WILL be opening again this summer!

During a recent press conference, the Rockford Park District announced the opening dates for all of their public pools. The dates are:

  • Sand Park Pool: Saturday, June 12, 2021
  • Alpine Pool and Harkins Aquatics Center: Saturday, June 19, 2021

The Rockford Park District is also teaming up with the YMCA of Rock River Valley and OSF Healthcare to provide swim lessons at all of their pools this summer. Registration for these 2 week-sessions,(weekday and Saturday sessions are available),  is open now, and you do not have to be a YMCA member to sign up.

Season Passes to Alpine and Sand Park Pools are available to purchase now at rockfordparkdistrict.org if you already plan on spending your summer poolside.

RPD's Harkins Aquatics Center is open daily and free to use, but available in two-hour sessions, 12 to 2 p.m. or 3 to 5 p.m. All guests will need to sign-in upon arrival.
