A shooting in Rockford has shocked the community as an 11-year-old is now charged with attempted murder of a teenage girl.

13-Year-Old Girl Shot in Rockford Home

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, a shooting occurred around 7:55 pm in the 1000 block of Harlem Boulevard on Saturday, November 1.

The victim was a 13-year-old female who was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but her condition was not released.

Rockford Police say an 11-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following the incident.

Suspect Located in Machesney Park

After several days of investigation, the Rockford Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit identified the suspect, who was known to the victim.

On Tuesday (11/4), RPD officers located the 11-year-old male in Machesney Park and took him into custody without incident.

Juvenile Facing Serious Felony Charges

Following consultation with the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office, the 11-year-old suspect has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Battery with a Firearm

The juvenile also had an outstanding warrant, according to the press release, and is lodged in juvenile detention.
