Do you like to go leaf peeping each fall in Illinois? Well, the good news is you don't have to travel far to see some of the best colors the state has to offer.

Fall in Illinois

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times; fall is a great time to live in Illinois.

This state is STACKED with apple orchards, pumpkin farms, corn mazes, and family-friendly events to go to each fall, but what about the biggest star of fall in Illinois? The beautiful changing leaf colors!

A typical fall adventure day in Northern Illinois for my family involves at least one, and sometimes all, of these things:

  • A stop at least one of our favorite apple orchards for cider donuts.
  • Visiting the Lindberg Pumpkin Patch in Caledonia so my kids can play and see farm animals.
  • Walking around Anderson Japanese Gardens and feeding some koi fish.
  • Taking a drive down Route 2 to Oregon OR 20 to Galena to soak up the beautiful fall color views.

Since we're on the subject of leaf peeping in Northern Illinois, where is your favorite spot to go to see the best fall colors?

Best Fall Colors in the Rockford Area

Changing leaf colors are everywhere you look in the Rockford area during peak season, but where do you go to see the best variety of colors?

For me, variety of colors and a relaxing fall vibe is what makes a quality leaf peeping spot, and these places in the Rockford area truly deliver the best of the best:

FYI, peak color change tends to happen in Northern Illinois around the second week of October, but if you want to plan a trip outside of the Stateline area to view beautiful fall foilage, check out Enjoy Illinois' Fall Colors Trip Planner.

Happy leaf peeping season, Illinois!
