According to WGN, "Juan Carlos Cruz, a survivor of sexual abuse, spent three days with Pope Francis at the Vatican in April, in which he discussed his sexuality and the abuse he suffered at the hands of a Chilean priest. Describing his encounter with the Pope to CNN, Cruz said: “You know Juan Carlos, that does not matter. God made you like this. God loves you like this. The Pope loves you like this and you should love yourself and not worry about what people say.”

WOW! From any normal person in the world, these comments are hardly worth a discussion. But, when these words come from the Pope it's a big deal.

The Vatican, Catholic Church, other denominations, and pretty much any god fearing human have always damned the gay community. Saying it's an unforgivable sin that will leave you with only one option when you die. Hell.

I am not a religious person. I have always envied those with faith but it's just not for me and I have accepted it. But, I have never been more impressed and inspired by a Pope before this one. Pope Francis is easilly the most progressive and forward thinking Pope that has ever been. It's not even a question.

His thoughts and comments about faith and science going hand in hand are also very impressive. To be honest, with younger generations distancing themselves further and further from the church. Francis is the Pope Christianity needed to bring new life to a dying belief.

Many people here in Illinois have applauded and condemned Francis for his comments about God making you gay and loving you that way. Personally, one of my biggest problems with the church growing up was the denial of this idea.

Here are some comments from Illinoisans not to thrilled with the Pope's words...
