How the once mighty have fallen. Northern Illinois university in DeKalb is set to revoke the honorary degree that it bestowed upon Dennis Hastert back in 1999.

The Northern Star is reporting that NIU's University Council officially revoked the honorary law degree on Wednesday. The vote was unanimous.

Last week Hastert was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison Wednesday for a bank fraud case linked to allegations he sexually abused teen boys more than 30 years ago. The disgraced former House speaker was once was second in line to the presidency.

NIU awarded Hastert a Doctor of Laws in December of 1999. According to the Northern Star:

The degree was unanimously approved to be revoked by the Honorary Degree Committee on Monday and is expected to be voted on by the Board of Trustees at the May 19 meeting, said NIU President Doug Baker.
