Ever since Elliot Golf Course was shuttered by the Rockford Park District due to necessary budget cuts in 2021, rumors have swirled that the property would likely become part of the future Hard Rock Casino Rockford landscape. People have said that Elliot's land would be turned into a golf course for Hard Rock Caisno's guests, but we need to nip that rumor in the bud right now.

According to this Rockford Register Star from June 2022;

Rockford Park District officials plan to sell the property with deed restrictions that the property never again be used as a golf course or house a waterpark.

Ok, so Elliot's future will involve a golf course or waterpark...what will it be?

Elliot Golf Course May Be Converted to Farmland

WIFR reports that the Rockford Park District has revealed a new 3-year plan for the former Elliot Golf Course land. RPD has leased the property to a local farmer who will use it for rotating crops through 2026, but there is one more hurdle they have to conquer before it's a done deal.

Rockford Park District Superintendent of Capital and Maintenance Dan Jacobson told WIFR;

The Village of Cherry Valley requires a special use permit in their zoning process for ag production within the village limits.

The Rockford Park District has already presented this plan to the Cherry Valley Zoning Board of Appeals and is expecting a decision to be made by this July.

What Happens to the Elliot Golf Course Land in 3 Years?

Turning old golf courses into farmland is common practice these days, and the Rockford Park District says doing this to the Elliot Golf Course property for 3 years will help prepare it to go on the market in 2026. It will also get rid of the overgrown eye sore the land is fastly becoming too.
