New Pizza Place Now Open on Rockford’s East Side
Remember last year when we were all stoked that Rockford was getting a Harold's Chicken location on N. ShowPlace Drive? Remember when it officially opened in May and then closed in November? Yeah, it's not a story fried chicken lovers like to talk about, but I think Italian food lovers will be delighted with what just opened in the space Harold's used to occupy. It's called La Piazza and it sounds DELICIOUS.
La Piazza Carry Out & Delivery's Facebook says they are "a locally owned and operated Italian restaurant featuring Pizzas, Pastas, Salads, Sandwiches, Appetizers, Catering, Desserts & More".
Turns out Rockford is more familiar with the "locally owned" part than most of us knew. In fact, the owner and head chef is no stranger to the Stateline food scene. According to the Rockford Register Star;
Vito Olszewski — owner of Vito’s Ristorante on Bell School Road in Rockford from 2011 to 2016 and on Bluestem Road in Roscoe from 2016 to 2018 — opened the new restaurant Jan. 1. He runs it with his son, Adam Olszewski.
The RRStar also reports;
La Piazza not only offers thick- and thin-crust pizzas that cost from about $10 to $20, but also his former restaurants’ signature dish, Conchiglie alla Sarda, a seashell pasta with tomato cream sauce, Italian sausage and peas. Salads, sandwiches, appetizers and desserts also are on the menu.
Here are a couple of things to know about La Piazza before you go; the restaurant does not offer any inside seating, and you can swing through before heading to see a movie at ShowPlace 16 to get a slice of pizza and a pop for just $3.50. That sounds like a delicious plan, don't ya think?
