Milwaukee Brewers’ Opening Day Comes With Major Traffic Warning
If you’re one of the many Illinois residents who proudly bleed Brewers blue and are heading over the state line today for Opening Day at American Family Field, prepare yourself for some extra traffic headaches.
Opening Day Excitement
For baseball fans in Illinois, Wisconsin, and beyond, today is a very exciting day: it's officially Opening Day!
The Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their home opener at Wrigley Field at 1:20 p.m., and the Milwaukee Brewers will open their season against the Chicago White Sox at American Family Field at 1:10 p.m.
If you're an Illinois baseball fan heading to Milwaukee today, you better leave earlier than normal and start practicing patience now, because construction on I-94 will cause some major traffic delays around the ballpark.
Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day Construction Update
A major construction project is currently underway on I-94 and around American Family Field that will cause headaches for many fans heading to Opening Day in Milwaukee.
To help ease travel nightmares, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Milwaukee Brewers have created an interactive website that includes recommended routes to and from each parking lot.
Since we're on the subject of parking, there are some major changes at American Family Field this season that you also need to know about.
Parking Changes at American Family Field
Starting today, the Milwaukee Brewers will be using a license plate recognition system for parking this season.
A spokesperson for the Brewers told FOX6 in Milwaukee:
The team will be using its license plate recognition system for parking this season. You can pre-purchase parking and activate it when you get there. Or scan the QR codes in the parking lots, enter your license plate number, and get day-of parking.
Here's another important thing to keep in mind: since the parking situation at American Family Field is more complicated this season, the Milwaukee Department of Public Works WILL be towing vehicles who are parked in wrong spots around the stadium.
Make sure you pay close attention to parking signage when you arrive in Milwaukee today, and don't forget to utilize the interactive website to make the drive to the ballpark as easy as possible!
Have fun, and be safe!
