We've all been there. When you find that taxiing to the gate after landing is taking nearly as long as the flight itself, you've probably thought about what it would be like to just open a door and get out. I didn't say you did it, just thought about it.

Well, as you'll see, pulling a stunt like that will give you your 15 minutes of fame, along with a considerably longer period of time sitting in a jail cell.

You Can't Help But Wonder What This Idiot Thought The Best-Case Scenario Here Would Be

I mean, if everything went right, what did this dude think was going to happen? Lots of cheers from his fellow passengers who were in need of fresh air? A salute from the airline for coming up with a unique way of streamlining the de-boarding process?

Or maybe there was very little thinking involved here. Here's what went down, according to a report from NBC News:

An arrest was made, Chicago police said in a statement.

“A male subject was onboard a plane that was approaching the gate when he pulled the emergency exit and walked out onto the wing of the plane," police said.

"The subject then slid down the wing and onto the airfield. CPD arrived and placed him into custody." Charges are pending.

At this point, all I can find out about the exiting man is that he's a 57 year old (more than old enough to know better) from Escondido, California.

Not much danger of him being out of jail in time to sit by you on your next flight out of O'Hare.
