Local Officials Blame Garbage Trucks For Trash Along Highways
There's a solution for the eyesores and it includes possible fines.
Winnebago County officials see the same thing we do, trash alongside highways and interstates in the 815. It's terrible. Illinois' Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, and the Sheriff's Office have a solution for the problem, which is being pinned on garbage trucks.
Winnebago County Board Chairperson Frank Haney said this to 23 News:
... there's way too much garbage flying off of trucks coming into town.
Let's not forget the trucks coming in from other cities and counties (including Chicago suburbs) also contributing to the litter problem along our roadways.
The solution is for garbage trucks to cover the exposed trash with a tarp. Failure to do so could result in possible fines.
