Illinois People Slam PETA For Trying To Ruin A Childhood Memory
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, are being slammed online after their latest letter and proclamation that would take away your childhood memories and ruin those of future generations.
While the organization has done things to protect animals in the past, this one has people from Illinois and around the world calling it the "softest" organization ever.
Childhood Memories of Riding a Carousel
Doesn't that look fun? Just some kids enjoying a ride around a carousel on a warm summer day. Places like Six Flags, Disney, and your local county fair have been bringing the simple joy of a carousel for decades.
The first-ever carousel was made in 1861 and powered by steam. Before this, carousels would be pulled by horses. This would make PETA lose its mind today. Not only do they want ethical treatment for animals that are living, but also for plastic ones that you sit on during a carousel ride.
PETA Wants To Remove The Horse Fun
On February 6 PETA released an open letter to "Chance Rides" urging them to stop manufacturing animal designs in carousels because it "unintentionally celebrates exploitation".
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk suggested the move would teach children to have 'respect and compassion' for living creatures and could help create a more 'merciful world.'
She wrote: 'PETA urges Chance Rides and all other carousel manufacturers to hit the brakes on old-fashioned animal-themed rides and embrace designs that engage children's imagination and showcase human talent.'
As you can imagine, the response has been a lot of head-shaking.
Others said, "PETA is targeting children's make believe, somehow equating this to real life animal abuse." While another brought up their next target, "What's next Peta? Ban stuffed animals for small children???"
