These Two Illinois Airports Ranked Among The Worst In America For Customer Satisfaction
Not every airport is going to be a cake walk.
Part of what makes flying so stressful can be navigating airports. Security, spread-out terminals, sometimes it seems like they're designed to tick us off.
One of my least favorite airports to deal with is Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson, and according to a study from J.D. Power, I'm not the only one.
They released their 2024 North American Airport Satisfaction Survey results. They looked at passenger satisfaction metrics including:
- ease of travel through airport
- level of trust with airport
- terminal facilities
- airport staff
- departure/to airport experience
- food, beverage and retail
- arrival/from airport experience
They broke this down into Mega airports (33 million+ passengers a year), Major airports (10-32.9 million passengers a year), and Medium airports (4.5-9.9 million passengers a year).
Chicago Didn't Do Well
For Mega airports, Chicago O'Hare ranked the 3rd worst airport in America for customer satisfaction. Out of a 1,000 point scale, the airport scored 569.
It only scored better than Toronto Pearson and Newark Liberty.
Meanwhile, in the Major airports category, Chicago Midway was the 5th worst airport for customer satisfaction. So kind of better than O'Hare? Maybe? Midway scored 598/1,000.
The top airports in the country, according to the study, are John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, and Indianapolis.
I've definitely had my share of issues at O'Hare (looking at you, baggage claim) but many airports pose problems in some kind of way. Air travel is just a stressful thing. Besides Newark Liberty, the other worst airports were Philadelphia and Cleveland Hopkins.
