I tend to be naive about how vicious thieves can be when they're trying to rip you off. As a Missouri homeowner myself, this kind of stuff makes me extremely paranoid. I have done research from multiple sites that all seem to agree that there are certain places you should never hide valuables.

AAA Club Alliance and Reader's Digest agree that one of the first places the bad guys check is the mattress in the master bedroom.  Studies have found that most homeowners hide valuables in the room they sleep in thinking that will be safer. It's not.

This is another brilliant suggestion from the home inspectors. Find an old VHS tape case and make it a jewelry box. This only works if the thief isn't an old school movie fan that misses VHS movies like I do.

Put valuables in a waterproof baggie and place it at the bottom of the soil in a house plant. A thief would have to be willing to dig through dirt and frankly most won't even try it.
