It’s The 50th Year Of The Delicious Kiwanis Brat Days
A tradition literally unlike any other, the Kiwanis Brat Days are back for their 50th edition of the fundraiser.
This is one of those Rockford traditions that the city does so well. I remember getting brats with my grandpa. It was just something you always did. It's been going on for 50 years and there's a reason. We love brats around here and it's for a great cause. Here are some facts from the Brat Days website.
- Brat Days is Alpine Kiwanis Club's annual signature fundraising event
- Raised between $50,000 and $80,000 each year for the last five years
- Raised over $1.9 million in the last 48 years
- All proceeds each year is given to 20 to 30 local non-profits serving children, the elderly, the disabled and for youth scholarships for post-secondary education
You can listen to Andrea from GoRockford.com talk about the event from her visit to the morning show this week.
The locations for this year's event are a little different from previous years. There will be two spots. One will be at the U-Haul building at the corner of E. State and Mulford. The other will be at the Blain's Farm & Fleet on Riverside by I-90.
They will be open this Friday, July 30th and Saturday, July 31st. 11-7 on Friday and 11-5 on Saturday.
The cost of a ticket is $7 and that will get you a brat, chips, and a pop or water. They do say that if you buy tickets in advance they would be $6. I don't see anywhere on the website that directs you where to go to buy in advance. Just throw them 10 bucks and have them keep the change, it's for charity.
A quick pro tip. Be on the lookout for groups selling cookies and/or brownies on the side. They are excellent.
