Illinois Hospital Makes Terminal Dad’s Wedding Dream Come True
Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois, pulled off an unforgettable wedding in just 24 hours so a dad with stage four pancreatic cancer would have the chance to walk his daughter down the aisle.
Life's Special Moments
As a mom, I don’t think there’s anything more sacred than the moments I share with my children.
I will move heaven and earth to be there for every important moment in my daughters' lives. From first steps, to first experiences, I don't want to miss a thing. I can't imagine the emotion this Illinois father must have been feeling while fighting stage four cancer, knowing he might not make it to see his daughter get married.
Illinois Hospital Hosts Impromptu Wedding
Here's the truth, I watch a lot of hospital dramas like Grey's Anatomy, Chicago Med, and The Pitt on TV, and these shows always depict hospitals going above and beyond for their patients, things you rarely see hospitals doing in real life.
That’s why the story of Grace Benway and her father, Dan, from Arlington Heights, completely stopped me in my tracks and left me teary-eyed.
NBC Chicago reports:
Grace Benway and her fiancé, Thomas Decourcey, are set to get married in Colorado next month. Though her father "did really want to try to make it" to the out-of-state ceremony, the rapid progression of his cancer forced them to make other arrangements.
These "other arrangements" turned into a wedding ceremony that took place in the hospital garden surrounded by family and her dad's medical staff.
I think this story is a powerful reminder to hold our loved ones a little tighter, and to never underestimate the power of love to outshine even the hardest battles.
