During many trips across the U.S. driving from Illinois to Montana, I was able to see some gorgeous places that most Americans are unaware of because they'll just fly over them, or never take the time to pull off and explore what's waiting just off the interstate.

From waterfalls to monuments, and beaches to big city buildings, there's something beautiful in every state that I want my eyes to see before I "kick the bucket."

According to a list from Only In Your State, these are the most beautiful places in the Midwest that you must see before you die.

Grotto of the Redemption - West Bend, Iowa

St. Croix River Valley - Minnesota

Onondaga Cave - Missouri

This underground "forest of stalagmites and stalactites" takes you along more than a mile of "glittering underground caverns."
